Helpful Tools

Tools to be used are determined by the needs of each client.  They may include traditional tools such as needs assessments, educational groups, reflective listening, journaling, guided imagery, story-telling, relaxation, or goal setting.  We also use specialized tools to deal with unique situations:

EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a psychotherapy technique, for individuals, that often quickly treats the symptoms of anxiety, anger, guilt, depression, poor self-esteem and phobias.  These issues may relate to painful and traumatic past events or to present life conditions, or both.  The client remains fully alert and in control of his/her choices during the procedure.

EMDR involves eye movement, hand taps or other left/right stimulation of the brain as the client thinks about troublesome past event or present life situation.  Although the therapist assists in maintaining the left/right stimulation and in processing the information that comes up, the resolution of the issues comes from within the client.  It usually emerges spontaneously as the negative feelings are cleared away.  The therapist does not usually suggest, either directly or indirectly how the issues are to be resolved.

Temperament & Typology- useful communication models.  Both identify normal behaviors and make people watching fun.  Temperament is based on differences in people observed and documented through out history.  There are four groupings that are easily grasped.  Typology is based upon Carl Jung's research.  Isabel Myers and Katharine Briggs made his work useful by developing the Myers-Briggs Type indicator (MBTI).  People are grouped into 16 types based upon common preferences.

NLP: NeuroLinguistic Programming
is a method for helping you modify your habits.  It is the art and science of personal excellence.  Art because everyone brings the unique personality and style to what they do.  Science because there is a method and process to discovering our patterns.  The “Neuro” part of NLP acknowledges that all behavior stems from our neurological processes: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.  We experience the world through our five senses; we make “sense” of the information, then we act on it.  Body and mind form an inseparable unity, a human being.

The “Linguistic” part of NLP indicates that we use language to order our thoughts and behavior and to communicate with others. “Programming” refers to ways we can choose to organize our Ideas and actions to produce results.

The application of NLP as we use it respects the internal ecology of each client, harmonizing the overall relationship between a person and that person’s thoughts, strategies, behaviors, capabilities, values, and beliefs.

PS: Psychosynthesis is a transpersonal or a spiritual form of psychotherapy, assuming that each person is a soul as well as a personality.  It is used to promote individual development and growth and can be used in personal, business and therapeutic settings.  PS uses imagery for the exploration of the unconscious and expansion of the awareness.  It sees the soul or self as the focus of coordination, integration, decision-making and assumes that all human beings have a natural drive for wholeness and healing.  To learn more about psychosynthesis, click here.

Energy psychologies utilize a blending of traditional and western knowledge like Psychosynthesis, EFT, and NLP creating a holistic mind, body, emotion, spirit approach to healing.
